NEW ZEALANDS BIGGEST DRAG RACING EVENT

Well day one is behind us now and the qualifying results are posted. The weather was overcast all day but stayed dry. Most of the day was consumed by all the paper work, with a dash of racing to top it off.

The camping ground has turned into a humming village with bench racing the order of the day.

Tomorrow, Saturday, we get into the serious side of qualifying where racers are trying get on the right side of the ladder to get the best shot at the road to the final.

Wednesday, 17 March 2010 Prestone NZ Nationals

The NZ Nationals has always been the event to attend, the one event every racer tries to get to even if it’s the last event of the season. Why does this event have that pull? Is it the history? 42 years of tradition can make it hard to stay away. Is it the vast number of competitors trying to win the one event that may make up for a bad season? In recent years I think it has more to do with the fact this is also the final chance to secure the last remaining points available to become the New Zealand Champion.

With the closest points race in the history of the championship the Century Yuasa Power Series events have what it takes to produce the best drag racing action in the country and the four other national events this season have produced the best spectator attendances of any competition events for some time, proving in these tuff finacial times fans will come if the event is worthy of their hard earned dollars.

Nowhere can you see more smoke than Guy Fawkes, more sideways action than drifting, more wheel stands than a super bike race and more speed than a formula 1 car and you don’t have to eat dirt to enjoy it! Event: Prestone New Zealand Nationals, Final round in the Century Yuasa Power Series.Including 5 second 290kph Top Alcohol Dragsters & 6 second 260kph Top Doorslammers

PRESTONE NEW ZEALAND DRAGRACING NATIONALS AT MEREMERE

The team at Fram Autolite Dragway is hard at work getting everything ready for the biggest weekend of dragracing on the New Zealand calendar for the weekend of

Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March 2010

The event will feature all of New Zealand's fastest and most powerful vehicles in each of the fourteen racing divisions.

Fram Autolite Dragway spokesperson Gary Bogaart, "This is our turn to host a round of the national series and it has the added bonus of also being the Grand Final of the New Zealand series.

Racers from all over the country will be pushing their machines to the limit to try and become the series Champion. The two premier divisions which are the Dragsters and Funny Cars in Top Alcohol and the full-bodied Top Doorslammers will provide plenty of action.

Friday is the first round of qualifying with gates opening at 12.00pm and the track open at 4.00pm.

Saturday is compulsory qualifying for all vehicles with the gates open at 8.00am and the track open between 10 am and 5pm while Sunday between 9.30 and 5pm is raceday.

There is a heap to do for all the family, great spectator viewing, good food, free children's entertainment and plenty of parking.
